“Where Is Our Data?” Students React After FG’s 100MB Promise

The Federal Government promised students 100MB of free daily data.

Students heard “free data” and immediately started calculating how long 100MB could survive.

Then October 1 arrived.

Students checked their phones.

Nothing.

Checked again.

Still nothing.

At this point, some students may be wondering if the 100MB is coming by road.

The initiative is designed to provide eligible students with daily internet access for educational websites and digital learning platforms, with the Nigerian Communications Commission working with telecom operators on the rollout.

The government says the programme is intended to make online learning more accessible and reduce the financial pressure of buying data for educational purposes.

But there is one small problem: some students are still waiting to receive the promised data.

And even when it arrives, the 100MB will reportedly be restricted to approved educational platforms rather than general internet browsing.

So, no using government-sponsored data to binge-watch your favourite series.

No scrolling TikTok for three hours either.

It is strictly business: education, research and learning.

Still, some education advocates have questioned whether 100MB per day is enough for students who rely heavily on the internet for assignments, research, online classes and other academic activities.

Because realistically, 100MB can disappear surprisingly fast.

Open one PDF.

Watch one lecture.

Download one assignment.

And suddenly your 100MB is looking at you like:

“My work here is done.”

For now, students are waiting to see whether the promised daily data will become a reality for eligible learners.

Until then, the biggest question remains:

Where exactly is the 100MB?
